The titular anime film of 2022 (or 2023 if you’re in the West) has found its new streaming home. The Suzume movie is now available on Netflix, as announced by the company on social media.

Check out the official Suzume movie trailer! The film is directed by Makoto Shinkai, the genius behind Your Name (2016) and Weathering with You (2019).

This is just one of multiple films from Makoto Shinkai that has found its way over to Netflix—and all of them are worth watching. They blend elements of surrealism with adventure for a heartwarming and often tearful story.

Suzume is a coming-of-age fantasy movie that follows a 17-year-old high school girl, Suzume Iwato, and a stranger—Souta Munakata. The two team up to prevent a series of supernatural disasters across Japan by ‘sealing’—closing—magical doors.

While critic reviews aren’t always anything—the movie had a positive launch with 96% on Rotten Tomatoes based on 132 critics’ reviews. It’s a beautifully animated film through and through, paired with superb writing and a captivating cast.
