Sand Land is a somewhat obscure manga written by Akira Toriyama back in the 2000s. You can learn more about the upcoming game (and animated movie) on Bandai Namco’s official website.
A multimedia Sand Land project was first announced by Bandai Namco a few years ago. Now it’s finally been revealed that we’re getting an animated movie this August, and this video game!
It’s so exciting that Sand Land is finally getting the recognition it deserves. Imagine Dragon Ball meets Dune… That’s the exciting, post-apocalyptic world in Sand Land.
Also… You’ll be playing as the son of Dabura! Yes, that Dabura from Dragon Ball. It’s a nice little Easter egg and throwback to Toriyama’s earlier work.
The Sand Land game is being developed by ILCA, who have worked on Dragon Quest XI and One Piece Odyssey.
The developers behind this game have a great track record, with other titles including the Pokémon Diamond and Pearl remakes. As we’ve seen with Dragon Quest, they know how to do Toriyama’s art justice.
Just from the pictures and trailers we’ve seen, Sand Land looks absolutely gorgeous. It’s oozing with charm.
It seems like Bandai Namco is really trying to diversify their IPs, and create their own multimedia successes. They’ve tried to do a game and tie-in anime previously with Scarlet Nexus.
Fingers crossed, Sand Land is a massive success, and people are drawn in by Toriyama’s familiar style. It’s going to be an action-combat, party-based RPG, with also a focus on mech combat.
