Marvel Rivals has been announced and will be coming to PC later this year. It’s a new 6v6 super hero team-based shooter developed by NetEase Games.
The Marvel Rivals announcement is already drawing in comparisons to Blizzard’s Overwatch, another hero-based shooter. Both games feature two teams of six, fighting over objectives using heroes with unique abilities.
You can read the official announcement post over on the Marvel Rival’s website. The game promises to be a fast-paced action title featuring a vast array of iconic characters from Marvel’s wide cast of Super Heroes and Villains.
This game will feature characters from the Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, X-Men, and many more from across the Marvel Multiverse—with more added post-launch.
The team at NetEase Games developing Marvel Rivals is composed of global talent—with veterans that have previously worked on successful shooter franchises, including Call of Duty and Battlefield. The game currently doesn’t have a release date, but is planning an Alpha test in May.
Jay Ong, head of Marvel Games, says “Marvel Rivals is one of our most ambitious game development projects… Our Marvel team has poured our hearts and souls into this project, and we are thrilled to work with the incredible team at NetEase Games to help deliver the ultimate Super Hero team-based PVP shooter.”
You can sign up for the Alpha test in May over on the official website. While there’s only mention of a release on PC planned, there has been rumors that the game will release on consoles in the future, too.
Marvel Games and NetEase haven’t gone too in-depth on what to expect in terms of game modes and future content—however, they have said there will be ‘Seasonal Drops’, that’ll bring in new characters as well as maps.
