At the Disney expo, Niantic’s MARVEL World Of Heroes was announced! How does the premise sound? Will it be able to break the curse and be as successful as Pokémon GO?

Check out the official announcement trailer!

MARVEL World Of Heroes is one of the newest titles coming from Niantic, alongside the pet simulator, Peridot. Niantic is partnering with Disney/Marvel to bring heroes to the real world!

Become a Marvel Super Hero in the real world. Create your own hero, patrol your neighborhood to foil crimes, and team up with your friends as well as iconic Marvel heroes such as Spider-Man, Captain America, and Wolverine to save the Multiverse!

Just from the snippets from the official website and interviews, the premise sounds promising. We’ll get to create our own heroes, and take down villains!

The developers have also stated that they aren’t limiting it to just the MCU heroes, too. We’ll see a range of heroes, and they’ll even draw from the X-Men and such!

Also, if there’s any IP that rivals the hype and attention of Pokémon, it’s the Marvel universe. Who doesn’t love superheroes?

Niantic has recently shut down quite a few projects, like Transformers: Heavy Metal. Hopefully, the company has learnt from their mistakes and applies them towards World Of Heroes.

The biggest issue with their games, such as Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, was the gameplay. The loop was too similar to Pokémon GO.

World Of Heroes needs to play fresh and be unique, setting itself apart. Another challenge it’ll need to face is self-cannibalization.

Niantic needs to make World Of Heroes a game people can play alongside Pokémon GO, or at the very least—hit a different market.

Their relatively, recently released Pikmin Bloom is actually a great example. It’s a game you can easily play alongside Pokémon GO and leave up in the background.

So, what do we know about Niantic’s Marvel World Of Heroes? Outside of developer interviews, not much else, unfortunately.

Personally, I’m hoping for some kind of action combat. Aside from that, we’ve learnt we’ll get to create our own heroes and team up with iconic ones. Time will tell if World Of Heroes lives up to the hype, I’m keen to see gameplay.
