So I’ve been playing a lot of Catan: World Explorers recently, and there’s a feature I’d love to see come to Pokémon GO.

For those unaware, Catan: World Explorers is also made by Niantic, and currently in early access in parts of the world.

Anyways, Catan: World Explorers has this feature called personal settlements – which are sort of like your own personal point of interest.

You can place these personal settlements anywhere on the map, and they function pretty similar to normal settlements found in the game.

That means you can place down buildings in personal settlements, earn experience, and get resources. Settlements are kind of the Pokémon GO gym equivalent.

Personal settlements in World Explorers was a great way to add more content to do at home, and another set of goal to work towards.

I’d love to see a similar feature added to Pokémon GO – maybe in the form of secret bases, or even personal gyms or camps!

We already know the feature is possible. Catan World Explorers even goes a step further, and lets you place down other types of items on the world map permanently.

I’ve come up with a few ideas for how a personal settlement system could work in Pokémon GO…

It could act as a sort of Pokestop, which could help fix the problem with rural players and people isolating because of the pandemic.

I was also thinking it’d be cool to add some sort of decoration feature, like in the Ruby/Sapphire games, and let you explore it later in Augmented Reality.

I don’t see any reason why Niantic would be against adding something like personal settlements to Pokémon GO.

It’d add even more content for people to do at home, it could even help out rural players – especially if it could also act as a Pokestop, and another cool thing to customize.

They could add items and furniture to work towards, or in the cash shop to spend coins on.

If it isn’t obvious, I’ve kinda been thinking about this idea a lot. Niantic could take a page from the Sword/Shield games with their camp system.

They could let you “leave” Pokemon at the personal settlement, for you to interact or play with in augmented reality!

How cool would it be? Taking the buddy and augmented reality systems in Pokémon GO a step further, and letting you interact and play with multiple at your own personal camp or base!

This could also be a cool throwback to the mainline games, where in both Gen 3 and 4 you could decorate your own bases – and in the Omega Ruby and Sapphire remakes, your own gyms.

With the rumoured Diamond and Pearl remakes on the horizon, it could even be a great way to promote the games in Pokémon GO!

I hope it’s only a matter of time before Niantic starts adding features from their other games like personal bases and chat to Pokémon GO.
